Chemistry
Description
Description
Chemistry is the scientific discipline involved with elements and compounds composed of atoms, molecules and ions: their composition, structure, properties, behavior and the changes they undergo during a reaction with other substances. What is the role of chemistry in our daily life?
Chemistry is important in everyday life because: Many of the changes you observe in the world around you are caused by Chemical Reactions. Examples include leaves changing colors, cooking food and getting yourself clean. Knowing some chemistry can help you make day-to-day decisions that affect your life.
Who is known as father of chemistry?
Jöns Jacob Berzelius
Along with Lavoisier, Boyle, and Dalton, Berzelius is known as the father of modern chemistry. In 1828 he compiled a table of relative atomic weights, where oxygen was set to 100, and which included all of the elements known at the time.
5 Main Branches of Chemistry
There are many branches of chemistry or chemistry disciplines. The five main branches are considered to be:
- Organic chemistry
- Inorganic chemistry
- Analytical chemistry
- Physical chemistry
- Biochemistry
Chemists investigate the properties of matter at the level of atoms and molecules. They measure proportions and reaction rates in order to understand unfamiliar substances and how they behave, or to create new compounds for use in a variety of practical applications
